In the 18th century, in Parma, Italia, there was fine printer and typographer named Giambattista Bodoni -- his work was called by many of his time and since, as the exemplar of sophistication in design. Beautiful books, exquisite typefaces, amazing sense of airiness and restraint. The type of our masthead is custom designed and hand-drawn by Tim Girvin and his team in NYC | Seattle, creating a perfection on the classics from centuries past, to a new revised and refined titling treatment -- just for us!   Sniffapalooza Magazine Banner by Tim Girvin

Introducing Zizan, Eau de Parfum

Zizan, a perfume like no other because it has everything a man could possibly want in a single spectacular scent. This is a powerhouse perfume. Expect a deluge of boisterous Sicilian lime, lemon and bergamot but to smooth the biting edge, a brilliantly refined concentration of vetiver.

Zizan belongs to the domain of the worldly, highly sophisticated and cultivated. It also belongs to the strategist - the man who knows how to seduce.

Top: Sicilian lime, lemon, bergamot, clary sage, pink pepper and juniper berry.

Heart: bay, violet and jasmine

Base: Vetiver, cedar, must and amber.

Also in the news: Ormonde Jayne opens in Dubai's Boutique.

Ormonde Jayne Perfumery has opened it's doors to the new dazzling store Dubai.  The breathtaking metropolis of Dubai has been chosen for the first Ormonde Jayne Boutique outside of its flagship store in London’s Old Bond Street.

The new perfumery  is part of Boutique 1 in Boulevard at the newly constructed Jumeirah Beach Residence. Ormonde Jayne’s retail space will have the same design as the flagship London store and customers will be served by dedicated staff expertly trained in the brand’s unique range and philosophy.

Founder and creator Linda Pilkington will oversee every aspect of the planning and construction so that it will be a true reflection of Ormonde Jayne’s demanding standards of perfection.

Luxury retail interiors specialists Caulder Moore, who created Ormonde Jayne’s spectacular new store in October 2006, have again been appointed to design the Dubai perfumery.  Their vibrant design for the boutique earned a 'highly commended' mention at The Benchmarks Awards 2007.

The new store will include the distinctive bronze smoked mirrors, black laquered testing tables and mandarin leather topped stools that feature in the flagship store.   Dubai’s meteoric rise has made it the retail hub in The Gulf and Ormonde Jayne’s founder Linda Pilkington feels that it’s the right place for Ormonde Jayne first international expansion.

Ormonde Jayne was recently awarded "Brands of Tomorrow 2008" by The Walpole, a trade body for luxury companies in Britain.

Blossom and Spice…

Intoxicating Davana Blossom
eau de parfum
Molton Brown

The House of Molton Brown has expanded their fragrance line with the arrival of Les Parfums de Rosine Rose Praline and the new version of the existing fragrance, Celestial Maracuja. While walking pass a fragrance aisle in Barneys New York in Chicago, I got a tantalizing whiff of an exotic scent that captured my attention. It was a fragrance collection by the name of intoxicating davana blossom eau de parfum by Molton Brown.

This was a fragrance that debuted in October 2007 but I felt it was worth mentioning because it is a fragrance for fall and it has a natural blend of Egyptian orange flower notes and jasmine sambac that gives the exotic impression that I smelled. The icing on the cake or in this case, the fragrance is the Indian Davana blossom.

Chicago Entrepreneur launches “lifetherapy”

lifetherapy is a new line of body care products created by Chicago boutique owner and restaurateur Lynette Lovelace. Launching with pulse point oils and hand crèmes, the line will be available in November 2008. Body creams and hand soaps will launch in Spring 2009, followed by candles, clothing, jewelry and earthenware. Working with an internationally renowned local team of product development specialists, Lovelace spent five years developing the lifetherapy brand.

All lifetherapy products come in three scents: play (notes of Red Orange, Fresh Jasmine and Marsh Grass), vacation (Polynesian Coconut Flakes, White Orchid and Sandalwood) and escape (Pineapple Leaf, Gardenia, and Palm Bark.)  Main ingredients in the paraben-free hand creams ($25) include Aloe Vera and Oat Protein for soothing and softening.  The creams contain essential oils of grape seed and sunflower seed as well as jojoba esters for skin conditioning and enhanced moisturization. The hand cream tubes are silk-screened and have screw caps that make for easy dispensing.

The roll-on pulse point oils ($48) contain the highest perfume percentage allowed. The fragrances are long lasting, alcohol free and made with sunflower seed oil and a naturally derived emollient ester. Sold in sleek hand-blown glass vials and packaged inside unique specialty containers, the oils fit easily into your purse with no threat of spilling.  lifetherapy is available at lifetherapy.com and embraceyourstyle.com.  Products will also be available at embrace Boutique located at 29 East First Street in Hinsdale, IL, and at select boutiques across the country by the end of the year.

ABOUT LYNETTE LOVELACE
Since 2005, Lovelace has owned embrace Boutique & Bistro, a unique men’s and women’s clothing and lifestyle-products boutique and attached bistro, which has been featured in Lucky, the Chicago Tribune, Chicago magazine, Chicago Social magazine, and on Chicago’s ABC-7. Prior to embrace Lovelace owned Kokopelli boutique and restaurant for 15 years.  Lovelace resides in Hinsdale with her husband and two children.

An Interview with General Manager Rick Friedland

I am not an uptown girl (nosebleeds above 60th street). But I have friends who are, and they swear by Clyde’s On Madison for ALL their beauty needs. But what can make a pharmacy worth the trip to 74th and Madison, when you can find pretty much what you are looking for in your own neighborhood, at a department store or online?  For me, it was a few magic words--- Diptyque, Claus Porto, Santa Maria Novella, Eau d’Italie and Linari. And yes, my grail hairspray…L’Oreal’s Ellnet.

Frederick Bouchardy
Sniffapalooza Magazine Interview
Artisinal Natural Perfumer
Ayala Sender
Ayala Moriel Parfums

"It is still a mystery why certain note combinations smell a certain way, or why perfumes by different perfumers carry their makers’ unique “fingerprint”. But one thing we know for sure: if you take care of each and every part of the process - paying attention to every detail will in return give us a high quality perfume. Every aspect of the process – from growing and picking the plants, distilling, blending, maturing and bottling has an impact on what you are experiencing in the finished product.
While I have very little impact on how the plants are grown or distilled, I have the power to make the choice of where I invest my money. I choose to use the best quality that I can find and in that way I am investing in the future of quality raw materials. It is my belief that in those seemingly small everyday decisions lays the key to making the world a better place: my customers are happy and continue to support what would otherwise be dying arts – aromatic agriculture, distillation and of course - artisan natural perfumery."   -From Ayala Moriel interview...

Ayala Moriel talks to us about her perfumes; her newest release Sahleb , her new Roses et Chocolat tea and about her new release in the spring...the Roses et Chocolat scented candle, her perfume course and her latest line of fragrant candles, perfumed tea and much more..

This is ultimately why the fragrance got its name due to the beautiful, sensual and delightful air it brings in the most sophisticated way. Personally, I would wear this fragrance on an evening stroll on a brisk and breezy night because this is when the essence of this fragrance in my opinion would be most profound.

Intoxicating davana blossom eau de parfum has notes from just about every country from fruity notes of bergamot of South Eastern Asia to resinoide tolu of South America. So if you are looking to spice up your evening with a sexy fragrance that is sure to take notice, your best bet is to wear intoxicating davana blossom eau de parfum for a night you will never forget.

Sniffapalooza Magazine Interview
with Perfumer Laurie Stern
Velvet and Sweet Pea’s Purrfumery

By Raphaella Brescia Barkley

Review follows interview
Cat’s Meow By Tonie Silver

My vision for my perfumes is to capture the romance of the “golden era” of perfume  through romantic scents and gorgeous packaging, and then to blend all this with a modern sensitivity to organics, health, and ethics.

At the heart of each Velvet and Sweet Pea perfume is always the profound sense of awe and wonder that I hold for the natural world. I craft my perfumes first with glorious scent in mind, but I’m also constantly incorporating myriad other facets, from the aromatherapeutic and healing properties of plants to their historic significance to the way in which a particular harvest has been gathered and grown.....
